Watching More Than Just the Barbie Movie đź‘€

Mattel is reinvigorated by movie release and Threads really gets to know you.

Mattel will report earnings on July 26, next week.

Mattel Stock: The Newest Barbie Toy!

Mattel flips the script! This vintage toy titan has launched a film division to give Disney a run for its money. And guess what? Their upcoming Barbie movie (hitting theaters on July 21st) has ignited a frenzy that's not only boosted their stock but also triggered a Barbie buying bonanza!

Established in 1945 in LA, Mattel introduced Barbie in 1959, followed by Ken in 1961. But the company hit a slump in 2013, taking a major hit from the Toys-R-Us meltdown in 2018. Fast forward to today, and their stock is soaring by 15% over the past month, thanks to the imminent release of the Barbie movie.

With stellar marketing moves and an avalanche of social media hype, Mattel has whipped up a tidal wave of anticipation, turning millions into die-hard Barbie fans, eagerly awaiting the big-screen magic—and splurging on Barbie goods like there's no tomorrow!

During a conversation with Mattel management, Fred Wightman, an analyst at Wolfe Research LLC, inquired about the company's ability to capitalize on the upcoming movie release following a recent sales decline. Richard Dickson, the president of Mattel, said that the company was “incredibly confident and excited about Barbie’s future.” Dickson added, “In Q2, we are expecting a much better performance compared to Q1, and we’re really confident that we’re going to continue to gain momentum in the back half and grow in the full year.” (Oh, how we wish we could have been there to run our Earnings PolygraphTM on his voice!)

Thanks to our friends at Aiera, you can can listen to what Ynon Kreiz, Mattel Executive Chairman & CEO, had to say about Mattel’s expected growth during their last earnings call. Stay tuned for exclusive Helios insights on the latest from Mattel's earnings call.

Fighting Words

“I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.”

Elon Musk, Executive Chairman & CTO of Twitter

“

Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter threw the company into a whirlwind. Then, on July 1st, Musk dropped a bomb: he imposed a limit on the number of free tweets you can see, even if you're a registered user. Talk about tightening the virtual purse strings! But wait, there's more!

Just as the tweet limit bombshell hit, Mark Zuckerberg swooped in with Threads, a Twitter lookalike. And guess what? It's spreading like wildfire! Threads racked up a mind-blowing 100 million users in a mere 5 days. Easy entry, too—all you need is an existing Instagram account. But here's the catch: Threads wants to know you, like, really know you. It's got an appetite for your data.

Only time will reveal whether Threads dominates the social media scene, potentially dethroning Twitter. Regardless, Threads promises a deeper understanding of your persona. đź‘€
